We visited for dinner on a cold January evening. We received a warm welcome and were ushered into the warm, cozy bay for pre-dinner drinks and a study of the menu. That was the first dilemma - do we choose the six course tasting menu - often the best way to see the chef producing their best 'show off' dishes. Or do we go for the à la carte? We all decided to go for the tasting menu. That brought another dilemma what sine to have. We couldn't agree but Ghan House is sensible to offer a wide range of wine by the glass, not just the house wine, do we could cater for all taste preferences and prices. Why don't more restaurants do this?

We moved to the restaurant and were treated to an amazing exoerience in the taster menu. Six perfectly cooked and presented courses, each different but all complementing one another. There was enough choice for some courses that personal preferences cou,d be catered for. My wife, for example would not eat eel, but I love it. She preferred instead to try the frogs legs and pronounced them to be delicious. I could not find any fault in any course. My favourite, I realise not to everyone's taste, was the blue cheese panna cotta. A light cheesy panna cotta deserved with poached pear, crispy apple, Parmesan biscuits, a rich prune, caramel crisp and tangy chutney. Sort of ploughmans lunch turned into an end to a wonderful meal.

Highly recommended

“Stunning experience”

Decided to eat here, while staying the night in Carlingford for two reasons.

First we walked around looking at different menus and their taster menu was the most exciting and most reasonable and secondly because it looked like an enchanting place to go.

 We were not disappointed.

The house was grand but comfortable and inviting. The staff were friendly, knowledge and extremely professional.

The food, oh my the food I can't say enough. I can't remember the last time I ate food that was prepared with such passion, consideration for flavour and presented in a way that made me want to clap my hands with delight!

Ghan House has made Carlingford seem not so far away from Belfast and we are already planning our next trip back, bringing as many friends and family as possible to let them experience something that is simply stunning.
